Based upon eye-witness accounts, this is the remarkable story of nine central characters from the engineering crew as they work among the huge, coal-fired furnaces heating the boilers and massive dynamos whirring to satisfy the ship’s demand for electricity. In the centenary year of the sinking of the RMS Titanic on 14 April 1912, the festival is delighted to present the world premiere of producer Stephen Rooke and director Maurice Sweeney’s recreation of this most iconic of sea disasters. Based on eye-witness accounts, Saving the Titanic tells the story of the disaster from below deck, exploring the question of what happened in the engine and boiler rooms after the collision.
