The End of Ageing · Episode Guide

Episode 1

THE END OF AGEING, directed by Ruán Magan, produced by Stephen Rooke and presented by Professor Rose Anne Kenny (Professor of Geriatric Medicine TCD, Director of the Centre for Successful Ageing, St. James’s Hospital) takes an in-depth look into one of the most important issues facing the world today.

The world’s population is changing more rapidly than at any other time in our history. According to the UN, the number of older people trebled between 1950 and 2000, and will treble again over the next forty years. In just a few short decades one third of the developed world’s population will be over 60. Half of all baby girls born this year will live to be over one hundred years old.

In THE END OF AGEING, Professor Rose Anne Kenny looks at how and why Irish people are living longer than ever before; the social, biological and scientific changes that are increasing our life spans; and how Ireland is leading the way in the development of age prevention technologies. The documentary also explains what is happening in age prevention, shows the audience how they can lengthen their own life spans and explains how some scientists now believe they are on the way to finding the Elixir of Life.
